Return to the woods

There’s not a soul around and it’s just getting light
Watery sun trying to break through
Clouds not strong enough to stop the progression
She smiles as she tethers herself
With a cord unseen to the earth beneath her feet
Wriggling toes to feel the connection
That she needs to sustain her very being
Feeling the oneness as energy sparks
A sigh escapes her lips and her shoulders
Drop to let her breathe the very essence of this other realm
Her ankles are tickled as grass reaches
Beckoning her forth be with us again it seems to say
We belong to one realm
She lies next to a gnarled tree on a carpet of leaves
Her fingers trace patterns in the bark
Rejuvenation is here in her forest retreat
The place she is centred
She will return in the morning but sighs with the wind
And makes her way back to the place termed the real world
If only they knew….

Creeping gloom

I watch it leech forth like a noxious gas
Wondering why nobody else seems to notice the cloud
Gathering slowly above, around
But who looks up when they still feel the suns warmth?
Would you check to see it were there or trust
Do you ever see the fog coming at you to swallow you
Until it has you enmeshed inside
Then you panic and scan a horizon that can’t be seen
Heart racing because direction has deserted you
Surety all gone to hells own home
Hearing noises that weren’t there before you’d swear
Or maybe you just didn’t notice
Wrapped in your security blanket of sunshine and harmony
And you stumble afraid of what awaits
Here in the dark dank gloom
The biggest fear may be spending too much time with the monster
That resides in your head
Telling you this may be your ending place
Feel the hands that claw at you hand and foot
Trying to bind you to a place you’d rather not go
Quickening heart
Slowing steps
Body trying to give itself to the inevitable
Fear and gladness,  confusion reigns
What waits in the dark murk of a mind unhinged?
Come inside
The voice lisps in your ear

The thorn that repels

You’re the thorn that smiles and then stabs hard
Thinking I’m unaware of you
You smile as if you mean it maybe in that split second
It’s genuine enough
And you keep harking back to anything you imagine happened
In the halls beyond the veil of time
Self centred pity removes the smile
Twisting it to suit you
For you try to wear two jackets simultaneously and they have melded
To and with you
You tell the world I am victim and victor
Garner the pity of the gullible
As you eat them alive snaffle snorting to yourself
At the fools who believed
In your dreams you see only yourself
Hero and villain too clever to be caught by any means
Still not understanding that they’ve all turned away
Seen through your bullshit bravery
Your cringing at the touch of a human hand trying to help
Outrage they thought you mighty one needed that
And now alone no-one to repel
You cry because you are alone and misunderstood

Boneyard of hope

I step in the boneyard tripping here and there
On a carefully placed bone
Left in the misplaced hope that I will fear
The other side of this place
Sure it is cold from the lack of life and sunlight
Only a dusty sand carpet
Exactly as the makers intended it barren and empty
I am warm without the sunshine
The bone at my feet is not one of human flesh
I can crush it with bare hands to dust
Call out to the winds that fear will not defeat this dream
However much it is dressed up as end times
To get through this I need only trust
And the bones of sand will wither and turn to dust

Parallel lives

Alongside me for an age but living elsewhere

Floating in your own bubble

Of the perfection you thought you created whilst wreaking

Havoc mixed with desolation

And you call me to tell me you’re so perfectly irresistible

Forgotten are the tears I cried

Waved aside your hurtful words and shameful lies

Things you thought me to stupid

To ever comprehend are stored in my memory banks

Packed in darkened boxes in recesses

Shoved away messily for fear of their escape pulling me down

I refuse to sink on this ship of fools

You hoped to create from a patchwork quilt of sewn together lies

Half truths and hurt

Never a strong swimmer until the moment I was in danger

Of being consumed by a fabricated world of parallel lives

Cutting the water with arms like blades

I fling myself upon a rock

The solid thing to be my salvation in this sea of doom

That I only noticed when I needed it.

Destination unknown

Fireflies dance along the pathway like fluttering beacons
The path illuminated with gentle light
Healing each step as if sending a dart to my heart
This one hope,  that one balm
Flickering amongst themselves a conversation in flight
My destination uncertain,  unknown
I find I don’t care trusting my fate to an ethereal presence
Whose hand guides my shoulder
As I take on the falling rocks and howling winds
Led by no solid man
On a pathway trodden before me though the steps long gone
Worn almost smooth the rocks I now walk barefoot
My feet and soul as one
Rest awhile and gather scattered thoughts
Fireflies around me protectively dancing
I nod to carry on destination still unknown
But certainty that all will be well dwelling deep inside
The path must be trodden not from a duty
But for my own peace
My heart bleeding in harmony with the splintered paint on the door
Which lies ahead with walls unseen
Mouth dry I feel drunk on expectation as I stagger
To my journeys end
Or have I travelled to a new beginning?

The beautiful lies

In the bubble of pretence your smile shifts
Like a ever moving desert sand
Picture change to suit the current story of the day
Pick through the rubble that is your mind
Mask slipping
Rubber stamp on the opposite page
So you can slide back into the rhythm you never had
A dream which didn’t happen
Though if you wait long enough then it might
Drop through the door you watch
You say do nothing and it’ll all work out
Don’t push for your dreams
They’re meant to fade with the light of day
Be like everyone else who asks the question of how
They can change things then accept
Learn to live with the same as the hordes before them
Swallow the beautiful lies like nectar from the gods
It’s a slow dawning till you realise
That bitter taste,  yes that one!
Is the taste of your own dead dreams sucked into eternity
So far out of reach because you deceived yourself
Into thinking you had to follow where you were told
The lie is wrapped in colourful splendour
Don’t breathe it
It can turn you sour slowly curdling like cream left in the heat
Walk,  run, escape the cat calls
Telling you that nothing different can happen
Run towards your hearts whispered wishes
Far from beautifully crafted lies

The moths silence

Wings beating fast, faster still against the words
Oh fearful things
Fused together over time in a few sentences
Believed and uttered
So I don’t grow too much of anything
A sense of hope,  longing, growth
Because I might become that person dreaming
Too high
Flight too close to the flames makes dust of me
Foolish motes on the wind
Better to be unnoticed in the corner and safe
From ridicule I thought
Ah but now I see this is not possible
For I will become dust from doing nothing
Having no destiny
Or destination but obscurity
In knowledge I fly to the brightest part of the flame
I may disintegrate to nothingness
Knowing I tried to do something to show my own self
I will keep silent as I’m devoured
The moths silence

Lioness

Watching and drinking in the whole scene to weigh it up

Carefully prowling

Until she knows what to use precious energy on

Circling in a slow decreasing arc towards the thing in eyeline

It is not aware of her presence yet

So used is she to moving deliberately and nonchalantly that nothing

Even notices

Unless she wants to be seen

Or they have crossed her path on the wrong side

Mainly she does not roar she is unassuming, quiet even

But a chord of fear is struck when they hear her angry battle cry

Notice for the first time her teeth.

So much drank in slowly, like milkshake through a straw

Chilling her insides little by little a steady stream of ice

Till her hot anger overflowing but slowly edge her towards her target

Watch her smile as she slithers in shadow

Kill her prey ? No not her.

Breath like crystals of ice as she breathes over the fallen prey

Who smiles unsure of why she looks different to them

And as her mouth covers theirs she lets it all come forth

Freezing their heart in their chest  with the cold built up over forever

Now she is free.

Butterfly wings

Paper thin and fragile she’s observed the butterfly wings
That adorn and illuminate her being
Lights in her eyes fresher
Once or twice maybe more the gossamer threads inside
Were cut
With thoughtless abandon dashing a heart
To pieces in her breast
The scars are healing,  fading away to silver
The pulling at her shoulders feeling like boulders weighing
Heavy cumbersome
Sunlight reflects in the pool where faeries play
Showing the wings of rainbow hues at her back
Delicate yes
One thought the proof of existence as they wave on a breeze
And she is ready to fly
Go where her heart takes her and she has control
Of her soaring destiny
